New Aegli Beach Hotel on Poros: Sea View Beauty
The best beach hotel on Poros, the New Aegli, is steps from a stunning Blue Flag beach — a budget, four-star stay with panoramic views and a friendly atmosphere.
Best Beach Hotel on Poros: New Aegli
Poros is about an hour away via ferry from the Greek capital. Ferries depart pretty often, so many visitors opt to spend a day on the island. Poros Town, the main town, is right where the ferries dock.
Poros is also an ideal weekend getaway. Others go for vacation every year. It is a beautiful place owning many stunning corners. Set on one of those corners is the New Aegli Hotel.
New Aegli Hotel Location on Askeli Beach
New Aegli is situated on the Kiani coast and one thing that impressed me immediately upon entering the lobby was taking in the incredible sea view, a sparkling panorama of turquoise and deep blues. Despite a few pesky power lines hanging in the way, it is a mesmerizing and relaxing part of the stay – just enjoying the view.
The hotel’s incredibly convenient access to the Blue Flag accredited Askeli Beach is its top asset. Cross a small road (which is open to a bit of sporadic traffic) to reach the beachfront steps.
Askeli Beach is cleanly organized with dozens of straw umbrellas and sunbeds. There’s also an electronic call button for drink and meal services which, of course, we loved.
In the summer, grabbing a pair of sunbeds can be a “problem” on any Greek hotel beach. Good thing is the hotel manages the sunbed service, offering its guests priority over outside guests. The beach lives up to its Blue Flag status. The waters are clear and crisp bordering a beachfront mix of sand and small pebbles.
The Kiani coast is very quiet from day to night. There are a few other taverns and cafes on the coast road. Poros Town, where much is happening, is about 1 mile (1.7 km) away. It is walkable when it’s not too hot. However, a short taxi ride, bus ride (if operating) or a transfer from the hotel will get you there in minutes.
The Rooms at New Aegli
The hotel has a total of 76 rooms including 25 superior rooms. We stayed in one of four executive suites which I highly recommend especially for the view of the beach and sea.
The basic décor is comfortable and what I loved was the great mattresses and pillows which are by the Greek luxury bedding brand Coco-Mat.
I was also impressed by the soundproof sliding balcony doors and blackout doors and curtains. This is important considering how strong the Mediterranean sunlight is in the morning and not too many hotels consider this for those of us that like to sleep in or sleep lightly. Our bathroom had double sinks and large hot tub.
Facilities and Amenities: Beach Hotel on Poros
I arranged to experience the hotel’s convenient transfer service which was great. The hotel also has an outdoor pool set on a turf lawn with a sea view.
The entire pool space is a jumble of activity including a gym, small pool bar/café, sauna, giant chess and playground. Concierge services arrange tours of the island.
Dining at the New Aegli
The hotel’s dining spaces are set on a big veranda with lovely views. The breakfast buffet including a basic spread of cold cuts, toast, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, cooked eggs, cereals, lemon juice and a coffee machine.
We also ate dinner there. The menu offers the classic Greek taverna fare and international specialities. Fair prices and hearty good food.
Conclusion: Beach Hotel on Poros
The hotel is family run, established in 1975. It is one of the few four-star offerings on the island. I think it’s a wonderful bargain. For someone seeking a relaxed holiday or weekend getaway in a non-pretentious setting along with good service and genuine hospitality, it is a great deal.
There were a range of guests at this beach hotel on Poros. There were families, young couples and retired couples. I especially think it’s great for families due to the fact it is so close to the beach with many child friendly amenities like the pool and playground. There are free cots upon request and babysitting services for hire.
I came with my friend Timi and we enjoyed it as a friends’ getaway. We loved just going to the beach, steps away from our room. It was an incredibly relaxing stay on a beautiful island.
