A Classic Boutique Stay in Malta: La Falconeria

hereWondering where to stay in Malta? La Falconeria is a beautiful hotel with cozy rooms, views of Valletta and a cave pool.

Introducing La Falconeria: Where to Stay in Malta

La Falconeria is one of the newest luxury boutique hotels in Valletta, Malta’s stunning capital.

I love how this four-star boutique hotel found the perfect name. In the 16th century, the Knights of the Order sent a Maltese falcon to Charles V of Spain who ruled Malta. Melita Street, where the hotel is located, was the street where the Knights kept their falcons. That’s how the name La Falconeria came to be.

The Location: Where to Stay in Valletta

When I thought about where to stay in Malta, I knew I wanted to be positioned right in Valletta. I love Europe’s old towns and their impressive architectures reflecting times gone by.

It turned out to be a good choice. While I explored much of the beautiful country by day, at night – back at home base – it was so easy to walk to Valletta’s sights, cafes, shops and restaurants.

The hotel is near Republic Street, High Street, St. John’s Co-Cathedral, Upper Barrakka Gardens, the Malta Experience and all the city museums.

The (very organized) bus terminal was a 10-minute walk away so it was easy to take the bus back to the airport.

The Hotel

Much of the building is hundreds of years old, some of it was destroyed during WWII. It has been elegantly refurbished with Maltese style floors, old world touches and marbled elements.

La Falconeria’s 43 rooms are set in whitewashed hallways that encircle an open courtyard. If you want a room with a view, book the third floor and upwards. The executive suites have views of Valletta’s cathedrals.

Our Room at La Falconeria

Our double room featured modern design with a meld of cool colors. I loved the traditional balcony which was perfect for a bit of old town people watching below.

The large and very comfy bed featured an excellent mattress system.

I found the room cozy, every corner aptly used for useful storage spaces. Just enough for two! I was happy with the desk area and lighting since I had to work at night. Also, the hotel had really great Wi-Fi. The room also featured a big electronic safe to lock up your computer and valuables, coffee and tea facilities and complimentary bottled water.

The bathroom featured a rainfall shower in a glass shower cabin and full bath amenities. There was a quality hair dryer in the room as well. All spaces were spotless.

The Cave Pool at La Falconeria

The hotel also has a small gym which was next to one of my favorite features: a cave plunge pool!  We loved checking that out one night. It was the most unique hotel indoor pool I’ve ever swam in.

Dining at La Falconeria

Breakfast was served in the intimate La Falconeria’s restaurant called L’Artiglio which means claw in Italian. The a la carte menu had several choices including eggs, pancakes as well as a menu for those on the go with items such as oatmeal and fresh fruit. Coffee and fresh orange juice is served as well.

We also enjoyed dinner here. There wasn’t a fixed menu, rather seasonal and daily specials.  We ordered three appetizer plates between us and they were all delicious. The restaurant’s stylish bar area is another space to lounge in as well.
