Where to Eat on Paros Island

There are fantastic choices when considering where to eat on Paros, one of the most loved Cycladic islands in Greece.

Where to Eat on Paros

Paros island may not have the same fame as Mykonos or Santorini but it is much loved by those who do figure out where it is and what to do. The other question remains… Where to eat?

I visited the island a few years back with the food scene in mind, specifically to review restaurants for Fodor’s 2016 edition. I just returned from Paros to update the 2018 edition of the book and found that the dining scene is even better than ever.

No, Paros isn’t like Mykonos, Crete or Santorini where you’ll find some of the most impressive restaurants on the Greek islands. However, Paros is developing well into its own. Here are my picks for the best places to eat on Paros.

Naoussa: Where to Eat on Paros

Siparos

Here, I couldn’t help but admire the setting sun slowly dipping into a sea glittering in brilliant hues of gold and amber.

Oh, yes, romantic sunset dining at Siparos has much to do with the view. The open-air dining room and terrace is immaculately set with beautiful white linen cloth tables and the attentive staff is personable and professional.

So, the setting is sunset surreal? Well, the food offers an experience too. In fact, I’d say the dishes are divine. I had the creamiest fava, a bean puree native to the Cyclades topped with Greek style octopus, which simmered in a smooth sauce of sundried wine and marjoram. Cocktails are beautiful. Great wine list. A must.

Blue Fish

This newcomer to the Parian dining scene has quickly built up its reputation as one of the best tables to book on the island. Your palate needs to be fusion adventurous. Here you can step away from Mediterranean and into a marriage of Japanese and Greek seafood culinary influences. They do it well.

We started off with a super thin carpaccio yuzukosho with ponzu, salicornia and extra virgin olive oil. Also notable is the sea bass in dashi broth with carrot, finocchio, capers and hollandaise sauce.

Mediterraneo

It’s always a pleasure to dine at this Naoussa Greek seafood taverna where chef Petros Tsounakis creates dishes with his own delightful Greek inspired twist.

We started with one of my favorites, the Greek style fried calamari. I enjoyed the tzatziki (traditional yoghurt dip) made with squid ink and of course mains such as the grilled Greek shrimp. Also try their bruschetta with anchovies and steamed mussels which come with a fries. Come hungry. Portions are great and the service friendly.

After Dinner Tip: Drinks in Naoussa

Agosta

Once you’re done with dinner in Naoussa, go for a drink and people watching in the harbor. You’ll see that Naoussa is buzzing with the summer island energy that equates to a happy lively median of what you’d experience in Santorini and Mykonos. Not too crazy. Not too chill. Just right.

Try the creative and colorful cocktails at Agosta which is the top bar on the island. This two-floor bar has beautifully lit evening lounge spaces in the square and behind the building right by the sea rocks. There’s also a fantastic DJ who will get you dancing later in the night.

In Paroikia: Where to Eat on Paros

Levantis

I really think it is the best restaurant located in Paroika (Paros Town) and one of the best on the island. I first reviewed this restaurant a few years ago and since then I had it in my mind to make it back.

The whitewashed garden courtyard dining space in Paros’ main town is simply charming. My latest visit only asserted my belief that chef George Mavridis is dedicated to serving special dishes with creatively and presentation.

I had the opportunity to try some new plates including stuffed sardines with cranberries and pine nuts, cucumber and poppy seed salad.

For a main, I ordered a perfectly seared tuna with preserved lemon and caper dressing, gingered beetroot and orange. Also nice is the tasteful cous cous with vegetables. It’s accompanying harissa sauce offered flavors more from herbs than spice which, in my view, was just right.
